This is the artwork I’m currently working on. It will be a 12” x 16” colored pencil of a quarter horse/pony.








		Completed Work


	For the first step I simply establish where my highlights are and lightly cover the whole area. In this stage I don’t pay very close attention to the exact color of the horse I just try to get a light base to build on later.

	For the second step I begin to add more medium tones while still maintaining my strong highlights. I’ve easily doubled the amount of colors I used on the previous layer. On the main coat color I have just added orange and red to create the chestnut hue. I have added more detail on the blanket and purple and orange to the saddle. Overall all I have done is attained the correct coat color and added a few more details. Notice there are no dark shadows as of yet.

	For my third step I’ve strengthened my tones and added dark brown. I also very lightly sketched in a background.
